You're in for the ride of your life in this dark and twisty, heart-stopping novel. Sea of Trees is the definition of the phrase ‘hauntingly beautiful’. Start by marking “Aokigahara: The Sea of Trees” as Want to Read: Error rating book. I am not sure what my expectations were going in, but coming out I was shocked at how much it haunted me. Swirling mystery permeates Sea of Trees as Bill, an American college student, and his Japanese girlfriend Junko traverse the Aokigahara Forest in Japan-infamous as one of the world's top suicide destinations-in search of evidence of Junko's sister Izumi who disappeared there a year previous. I really wanted to like this book but it was just missing things. I felt so badly for Bill. He found a walkie-talkie from a deceased camper and Takumi is too unwell.

There is a main plot involving a young couple Bill and Junko; she is investigating her sister's disappearance. Highly recommended for lovers of beautifully-written literary fiction...which should include everyone who loves to read.
